Sessions are held on Sunday afternoons with emphasis on learning the fundamental lacrosse skills.  At this level, players learn skills in a clinic format with game situations introduced in the later weeks. Games are played intra-squad, small-sided, on a modified field with coaches on the field providing instruction.  This is a recreational program open to players of all experience levels.

  • Season: September 13th through November 1st
  • Location: Pole Green Park, Multipurpose field #1 or #2
  • Time: Sunday Afternoon, specific time TBA
  • Uniform: All players must have a Blackhawk Lacrosse royal blue reverisble pinnie (you can purchase one during registration if you do not have one from last fall/winter).
  • Equipment:  Players will need to provide their own girls' lacrosse stick, eye cage and mouth guard.
US Lacrosse Membership: For insurance purposes, all participants must have a current US Lacrosse Membership.  If you are not a current US Lacrosse member or your membership expires during the season, our registration will open a new window linking you to the US Lacrosse membership website to purchase or renew.

Sessions will be 1 hour and 30 minutes and are held on Sunday afternoons. 30-minute practice/warm-up followed by a game.  Games are played 7v7 plus goalie.

This is a recreational program open to players of all experience levels. Please note this is a game-only league with limited instruction time before games.  The 7v7 game format allows for fun, fast-paced games with lots of touches!

NOTE: Not recommended for brand new players—if you have never played lacrosse, we recommend the 6-week Beginner Clinic.

  • Season: September 13th through November 1st

  • Time: Sunday afternoons, specific time TBA

Blackhawk Lacrosse Boys Recreational Program 
This program will be offered to boys in 1st and 2nd grade. This program is designed for beginner and experienced players. The Rec program will focus primarily on the fundamentals of the game, skill development, and proper lacrosse techniques.

  • Season: September 13th through November 1st

 

  • Location: Pole Green Park, Multipurpose Field #1 or #2
  • Time:  Sunday afternoons, specific time TBA (Typically 4:30 pm)
  • Uniform: All players must have a Blackhawk Lacrosse uniform (you can purchase one after registration if you do not have one from last fall/winter/summer from iBrand sports).
  • Equipment: Players will need to provide their own boys' lacrosse stick, helment, elbow pads, shoulder pads, and mouth guard.
  • Format:  
    • Practices:  1x/week (tentatively Sundays 4:30 pm starting Sept 12th)
      • ​Practices will be focused on fundamentals.
      • Later weeks will lead to game play.
    • Players: 4v4 format (max 6v6) with optional goalie or shot blocker. Coaches on field.
    • Games:  Games will be against other Blackhawk Rec teams
    • Rules: No body checking permitted. Legal stick checks and poke checking techniques will be focused on at this age level.

This season the boys 3/4 program will conform to US Lacrosse rules utilizing a 7v7 game on a modified field. This provides the boys more touches, greater opportunity to create lacrosse plays and a better opportunity to learn the fundamentals of the game. The Rec program will focus primarily on the fundamentals of the game, skills development and proper lacrosse techniques.

Blackhawk Lacrosse COVID-19 Guidelines are guided by both the US Lacrosse Safe Return to Play Guidelines and the Commonwealth of Virginia Guidelines for athletics.

COVID Action Plan, including:

  • Safety & Hygiene Coordinator - contactless temperature checks every week and health questionnaire required to completed prior to any athlete or coach participating
  • Athletes will be turned away if they present any symptoms and/or register a temperature above 100.3
  • Blackhawk will modify the rules as needed to keep players safe
  • Player COVID Waiver with health guidelines will be required with registration
  • No handshakes, high-fives, fist-bumps
  • No congregating or huddles
  • No sharing of equipment
  • Hand & stick sanitizer available on every field
